Craft Paint Madness

Craft Paint Madness By Robin Mead

My new class coming out in March 2018..

Early registration is February 1st..details to come

I use craft paint a lot and although it is not used for fine art or archival pieces..it has an amazing ability to create some awesome  art and it is so versatile and affordable that it allows you to play , practice and explore without worrying about the cost or using up all of your paint. A lot of times I hear people say they have a hard time playing and experimenting because the supplies are so costly..well craft paint offers you all the opportunities to experiment and explore without having to lay out a lot of money  for high quality paint. And  BTW..I have pieces from over 12 years ago that still have the same look as they did  when I created them..using craft paint…So in this course I will share what I do with and create with craft paint..and it is Fun..!

Painting pages for journals

funky flowers fun

These are just some of the styles I create for adding the painted pages to my journals. With each journal, whatever the size, I give the client the option to choose between all blank watercolor pages, or a mix of blank and painted pages. For the painted pages I use Canson 90 lb mixed media paper  and Americana Craft Paint  I usually get them at Walmart for 2 for 1$. I love how the paper feels after it has dried. It makes it thick and a very matte finish which is great for painting on top of..or drawing with a pen marker or paint pens.

The pages are fun to do and I usually create them when I am pondering what I want to do next or if I dont feel like thinking too much and I just want to play with paint.

I also use my treasured eraser stamps which I made years ago but I still love today..

..and then I cut them up to fit each journal

Its all about the Base…

So what are you favorite things to paint on..

I used to love canvas..but it has lost its allure for me, I’m not sure why…this is on canvas..and I love how the texture shows through..but I think it is the soft or pliable nature that goes against the need for a very hard surface that I am enjoying painting on now..

I love watercolor paper, either big sheets or little Aceo cards. I love the way it has some strength and rigidity, and how it absorbs so beautifully.

I love painting on mixed media paper as well..I love using a brayer on it and how it has the slightest texture and is not very rigid but flexible.

I love painting on drift wood, with its smooth yet  uneven surface.  I love painting rings around it in colorful bold stripes.

..but my all time fav is plywood..I love the hard surface..the characteristic grain of the wood..the discrepancies within the grain..the affordability of it..and the large sizes you can buy..also how you can use it for many things..a table top for creating..a coffee table top..a wall hanging or art pieces..or just use it to build things after it is painted..try it with a found piece of plywood..you’ll love it..!
